Other Information
USNS SEAY has earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal the Iraq Campaign Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal as of 2020.
NAMESAKE - Sergeant William Wayne Seay, US Army (24 October 1948 – 25 August 1968)
Seay, born in Brewton, Alabama, joined the US Army from Montgomery, Alabama in 1967, and by August 25, 1968 was serving as a Sergeant in the 62d Transportation Company (Medium Truck), 7th Transportation Battalion, 48th Transportation Group. For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty, Sgt. Seay distinguished himself while serving as a driver with the 62d Transportation Company on August 25, 1968 near Ap Nhi, Republic of Vietnam. For his heroic actions, Sgt Seay was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.
Sergeant Seay's medals include the Medal of Honor, the Purple Heart Medal, the US Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal w/ 1 Campaign star and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Sgt William W. Seay is buried at Weaver Cemetery, Brewton, Alabama.
