USS WHITE MARSH earned the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 5 Battle stars. the World War II Victory Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal w/ Asia clasp, the National Defense Service Medal (2 awards) and the Philippines Liberation Medal (2 awards) during her Naval career.
NAMESAKE - A town in Gloucester County, Va. White Marsh was the birthplace of Dr. Walter Reed, the Army physician, pathologist, and bacteriologist who conquered yellow fever at the turn of the century.
The ships sponsor was Mrs. William C. Wise, the wife of Colonel William C. Wise, USMC.
