Naval Covers

This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. Postmarks

This section lists examples of the postmarks used by the ship. There should be a separate set of postmarks for each incarnation of the ship (ie, for each entry in the "Ship Name and Designation History" section). Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

50th Anniversary of Commissioning, cachet features Capt. Robert D. Rawlins former CO of the USS Triton.
The original artwork was prepared by Alton M. (Budd) Arrington, the cover was created by Al Banasky and serviced by Rich Hoffner in 2009.

 

Other Information

USS TRITON received the Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon and the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - A Greek demigod of the sea who was the son of Poseidon and Amphitrite. Triton, who possessed a man’s body above the waist and that of a fish below, used his conch-shell trumpet alternately to summon storms and to still the sea.

Five ships of the US Navy have borne the name TRITON - USS Triton YT-10, USS Triton ID No. 3312, USS Triton SS-201, USS Triton WPC-116 and USS Triton SSN-586.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. John Will.
