USS ATA-197 / USS SUNNADIN earned the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the National Defense Service Medal (2 awards), the Vietnam Service Medal w/ 3 Campaign stars and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - An Anglicized spelling of the Huron Indian town, Sunyendeand.

Two ships of the US Navy have borne the name SUNNADIN - USS Sunnadin ATO-28 and USS Sunnadin ATA-197.
