This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. Postmarks
This section lists examples of the postmarks used by the ship. There should be a separate set of postmarks for each incarnation of the ship (ie, for each entry in the "Ship Name and Designation History" section). Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.
A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an
image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN
THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

Other Information
USS STEIN earned the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, the Navy Expeditionary Medal w/ 1 star, the National Defense Service Medal w/ 1 star, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal w/ 1 star, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait) during her Naval career.
NAMESAKE - Corporal Tony Stein, USMCR (30 September 1921 - 1 March 1945)
Stein enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on 22 September 1942. For conspicuous gallantry in repeated singlehanded assaults against the enemy and outstanding valor in aiding wounded Marines during the initial assault on Iwo Jima on 19 February 1945, Cpl. Stein earned the Medal of Honor. Cpl. Stein was the first Marine (out of twenty-two Marines) to receive the Medal of Honor for action in the Battle of Iwo Jima.
Less than two weeks after the action in which he earned the Nation's highest award for valor, on 1 March 1945, he died in combat during a mission in which he and a group of fellow Marines had volunteered to locate some enemy machine gun emplacements which were holding up the advance of his entire company. Cpl. Stein was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Marines, 5th Marine Division when he was killed.
Corporal Stein's Medal of Honor and citation were presented to his widow on 19 February 1946 during a ceremony in the office of Governor Frank Lausche of Ohio.
