Postmarks

Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

Other Information

USNS SILAS BENT has earned the Navy Battle "E" Ribbon and the National Defense Service Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Lt. Silas Bent III, USN (10 October 1820 - 26 August 1887).
        Bent, was a naval officer in the U.S. Navy prior to the American Civil War. Silas Bent sailed both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and was recognized by the Navy for his contributions to oceanography which were published by the Navy.

The ships sponsors were Miss Nancy M. McKinley and Mrs. Jeffrey R. Grandy
