Postmarks

This section lists examples of the postmarks used by the ship. There should be a separate set of postmarks for each incarnation of the ship (ie, for each entry in the "Ship Name and Designation History" section). Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

NAMESAKE - Second Lieutenant John Paul Bobo, USMC (February 14 1943 - March 30 1967)
Bobo was assigned duty as platoon commander, Company I, 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division. While serving in this capacity, he was mortally wounded while firing his weapon into the mainpoint of the enemy attack on March 30 1967.
2nd Lt. Bobo was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroism in Vietnam.
2nd Lieutenant Bobo's awards include: Medal of Honor, Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (with one bronze star), Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross (with Palm) and National Order of Vietnam 5th Class.
