Naval Covers

This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. Postmarks

Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

North Pole Surfacing, cachet by Tom Morrissey. Submarine Puffer had no post office, the cancel was used for this North Pole trip.

 

Other Information

USS PUFFER earned four Navy Unit Commendation Ribbons, four Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbons and three Battle "E" Ribbons during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - A fish that fills its body with air.

Two Submarines of the US Navy have borne the name PUFFER - USS Puffer SS-268 and USS Puffer SSN-652.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Grace Colwell.
