    On July 20, 2009 the US Navy announced that the ship would be inactivated on
    August 2, 2010 and decommissioned at an undetermined later date.

Naval Covers

This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. This section lists examples of the postmarks used by the ship. There should be a separate set of postmarks for each name and/or commissioning period. Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

Other Information

USS MOUNT BAKER earned a Secretary of the Navy Letter of Commendation, the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, four (4) Navy Battle "E" Ribbons, five (5) Navy Expeditionary Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, two (2) Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals, the Southwest Asia Service Medal and the Armed Forces Service Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Named for Mount Baker, a volcano in the Cascade Range of Washington

Two ships of the US Navy have been named MOUNT BAKER - USS Mount Baker AE-4 and USS Mount Baker AE-34.
