Built in 1921 as "KALLISTO", a diesel powered steel-hulled yacht, at Krupp Germania Werft, Kiel, Germany Delivered to her owners Anschutz and Coin in August 1921 Sold in 1930 to Zane Gray, renamed "FISHERMAN II" In 1931 refitted before sailing to Fiji in aborted round the world trip Sold in 1936 to W.R. Dobbs, San Pedro, CA., converted to a cargo vessel Acquired by the US Navy July 30 1942 Renamed "MINDORO YAG-15" August 22 1942 |

image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN
THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

USS MINDORO received the following awards during her Naval career - American Campaign Medal - Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal - World War II Victory Medal.
NAMESAKE - The seventh largest island in the Philippines, located southwest of Luzon.
Three ships of the US Navy have been named MINDORO - USS Mindoro (Gunboat 1899), USS Mindoro YAG-15 and USS Mindoro CVE-120
