Leyden Class Miscellaneous Unclassified Built 1911 by Harlan & Hollingsworth Corp., Wilmington, Delaware as Small Passenger Steamer NORTHLAND (Official Number 208377) SS NORTHLAND (Passenger-Cargo Ship) Owned and operated by Norfolk & Washington Steamboat Co 1911 to 1942 Requisitioned on July 11 1942 by the War Shipping Administration and Lend-Leased to the British Ministry of War Transport (BMWT). Operated as Transport by the British Navy during the early stages of World War II Transferred to U.S. Navy, assigned new name and designated Miscellaneous Unclassified (IX) May 18 1944 USS LEYDEN IX-167 Commissioned May 22 1944 - Decommissioned July 23 1945 Struck from Naval Register (date unknown) HUNG CHONG (Commercial Service) Sold November 7 1946 to Fu Chung International Corp. and renamed Scrapped in 1955

Since a ship may have many covers, they may be split among many pages so it doesn't take forever for the pages to load. Each page link should be accompanied by a date range for covers on that page.

Postmarks

This section lists examples of the postmarks used by the ship. There should be a separate set of postmarks for each name and/or commissioning period. Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.
