This section lists the names and designations that the ship had during its lifetime. The list is in chronological order.

Naval Covers

This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. Other Information

USS KANSAS CITY earned the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon (2 awards), the Navy Battle "E" Ribbon (3 awards), the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (2 awards), the Vietnam Service Medal w/ 3 Campaign stars, the Southwest Asia Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait) during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Large cities in Missouri and Kansas.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Harry Darby, wife of former Kansas Senator Harry Darby.

Three ships of the US Navy have borne the name KANSAS CITY - USS Kansas City CA-128 (Canceled 12 August 1945), USS Kansas City AOR-3 and USS Kansas City LCS-22.
