Editing Other US Navy Category Pages

This index lists entries for a given "Other U.S. Navy" category.

If this is the first time the page is created, copy and paste in the template from Other U.S. Navy Category Page Template and then make modifications as needed.

Basic Page Structure

An entry for the Other U.S. Navy category page is contained on a single line starting with "...". There are two types of entries:

  1. Entries with an active link
    The entry's name is a link that takes you to the page for that entry. The link should only be active if there is an actual page already created for that entry or if the entry's page will be created immediately it is added to the category page. Entries with an active link use the following template:
    <tr><td>  ENTRY NAME  </td></tr>

  2. Entries with an inactive link
    The entry's name is not a link (ie, it is not clickable). Entries with an inactive link use the following template:
    <tr><td><!--  --> ENTRY NAME <!--  --> </td></tr>

Where:

" ENTRY NAME" is a link to the page that contains the information for the entry. "PAGE_NAME" is the name of the page for the given entry and should have the form: "OtherUS_<Entry Name>". For example, the page name for USS Macon ZRS-5 is "OtherUS_Macon_ZRS_5".

"ENTRY NAME" is the name of the entry and will be used as the link's label (ie, how the link will appear when displayed on the page). For example, USS Macon ZRS-5 is a link to a page named OtherUS_Macon_ZRS_5 but in the index page the link looks like "USS Macon ZRS-5".

Notice the difference between the two templates. The "inactive link" template has portions commented out using HTML comments (starts with a "<!--" and ends with a "-->"). There are two sections within the template that are commented out: "" and "".

How to convert an existing inactive link entry into an active link entry

All you have to do is remove the HTML comment tags.

  1. Remove the comment start tag ("<!--") before "[[PAGE_NAME |"
  2. Remove the comment end tag ("-->") after "[[PAGE_NAME |"
  3. Remove the comment start tag ("<!--") before "]]"
  4. Remove the comment end tag ("-->") after "]]"

For example, convert:

<tr><td><!--  --> USS Macon ZRS-5 <!--  --> </td></tr>

to:

<tr><td>  USS Macon ZRS-5 </td></tr>

If you need to create the page for a new entry, copy the Other U.S. Navy Page Template.

Don't forget to preview the page before saving it and please add a short description of the change in the Summary text box just above the Save / Show buttons at the bottom of the page. A short description would be something like "activated link for USS Macon".

How to add a new "inactive link" entry

If you just want to add a entry's name but not create the actual page for that entry, then you need to use the "inactive link" template (see above) to create an entry with an inactive link. Copy the template and paste it in the correct location. Then replace "PAGE_NAME" and "ENTRY NAME" with appropriate values. For example:

<tr><td><!--  --> USS Macon ZRS-5 <!--  --> </td></tr>

Don't forget to preview the page before saving it and please add a short description of the change in the Summary text box just above the Save / Show buttons at the bottom of the page. A short description would be something like "added USS Macon".

How to add a new "active link" entry

If you want to add a new entry with an active link or activate the link of an existing entry, then you need to use the "active link" template (see above) to create an entry with an active link. Copy the template and paste it in the correct location. Then replace "PAGE_NAME" and "ENTRY NAME" with appropriate values. For example:

<tr><td>  USS Macon ZRS-5  </td></tr>

If you need to create the page for a new entry, copy the Other U.S. Navy Page Template.

Finally...

Don't forget to preview the page before saving it and please add a short description of the change in the Summary text box just above the Save / Show buttons at the bottom of the page. A short description would be something like "added USS Macon".
