Other Information

USNS CHAUVENET earned the Navy Battle "E" Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal and the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait) during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - William Chauvenet (24 May 1820 – 13 December 1870)
Chauvenet was a professor of mathematics, astronomy, navigation, and surveying who was instrumental in the establishment of the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, and later the second chancellor of Washington University in St. Louis.

Two ships of the US Navy are named in his honor, USS Chauvenet AGS-11 and USNS Chauvenet T-AGS-29.
