USS BOTETOURT APA-136 was at Tokyo Bay September 2 1945 for the Japanese surrender

USS BOTETOURT earned the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal (with Asia clasp), the National Defense Service Medal and the Philippines Liberation Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Named for a county in Virginia. It is centrally located in the western portion of the state, west of the Blue Ridge Mountains astride the Valley of Virginia or Great Appalachian Valley.
