of Rear Admiral Alan Goodrich Kirk, USN, Commander TF 122. Cover shared by David Norment, son of S1/c Paul J. Norment, USN. (May He Rest In Peace)

 

Other Information

USS AUGUSTA earned the China Service Medal w/ 3 bronze stars, the American Defense Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the European–African–Middle Eastern Campaign Medal w/ 3 Battle Stars and the World War II Victory Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Named for the city of Augusta, Georgia.

Four ships of the US Navy have borne the name AUGUSTA (for Augusta Georgia) - USS Augusta (1799 14-gun Brig), USS Augusta (1861-68 Side-wheel Steamer), USS Augusta SP-946 and USS Augusta CA-31.

The ships sponsor was Miss Evelyn McDaniel of Augusta, Georgia.
