        as a cadet training ship, manned by the US Coast Guard and
        unlicensed merchant marine personnel of the US Maritime Service

    Commissioned by the US Coast Guard 30 December 1941 - Decommissioned 31 August 1942

  2. TS AMERICAN MARINER
    Renamed and placed in service as a cadet training ship, circa 1942-43

    Assigned to Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA) as a school ship in 1946
    Laid up at Kings Point, N.Y, in 1950
    Transferred to the National Defense Reserve Fleet in December 1953
    Reactivated in 1957
    Converted to a Missile Range Instrumentation Ship

  3. USAS AMERICAN MARINER
    Placed in service by the US Army in January 1959
    Assigned to ARGMA (Advanced Research Guided Missiles Agency), Redstone Arsenal
    Placed out of Service 1 January 1964

  4. USAFS AMERICAN MARINER
    Assigned to the AMR (Atlantic Missile Range) under the Air Force and Pan American control 1 January 1964

  5. USNS AMERICAN MARINER T-AGM-12
    Transferred to the US Navy MSTS and Placed in Service (Date Unknown)
    Placed out of Service 1966

    Struck from the Naval Register (Date Unknown)
    Intentionally grounded on a sand bar 7 miles east of Point Lookout, between Point Lookout and Smith's Island
            for use as an aerial bombing target.

Postmarks

Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.
