Ship Name and Designation History

This section lists the names and designations that the ship had during its lifetime. The list is in chronological order.

Naval Covers

Other Information

USS PIGEON earned the Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon (2 awards), the China Service Medal, the American Defense Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ one Battle star and the WWII Victory Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Named for the avian ambassador, the pigeon.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Joseph B. Provance.

Three US Navy vessels have borne the name PIGEON - USS Pigeon ASR-6, USS Pigeon AM-374 and USS Pigeon ASR-21.
