Naval Covers

Other Information

Named in Honor of Rear Admiral Grace Murray Hopper (December 9 1906 – January 1 1992) an American computer scientist and United States Navy officer. A pioneer in the field, she was one of the first programmers of the Harvard Mark I calculator, and she developed the first compiler for a computer programming language. Because of the breadth of her accomplishments and her naval rank, she is sometimes referred to as "Amazing Grace".

RAdm Hopper's military awards are: The Defense Distinguished Service Medal, The Legion of Merit, The Meritorious Service Medal, The American Campaign Medal, The World War II Victory Medal, The National Defense Service Medal, The Armed Forces Reserve Medal with two Hourglass Devices and The Naval Reserve Medal.

The ships sponsor is Mrs. Mary Murray Westcote, sister of RAdm Grace Hopper.
