Other Information

USS THUBAN earned the Combat Action Ribbon, the China Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (w/ 8 Battle stars), the World War II Victory Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal (w/ Asia clasp), the National Defense Service Medal (2 awards), the Korean Service Medal (w/ 3 Battle stars), the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (2 awards), the Philippines Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Medal (w/ 1 star), the United Nations Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - A star of 3.6 magnitude, the brightest body in the constellation Draco. Thuban was at one time the pole star and was important in ancient Egyptian religion.

The ships sponsor was Miss Madeleine Carroll, an English actress, popular both in Britain and in America in the 1930s and 1940s.
