11000 NUMBERS

The 11000 numbers were postal accounting numbers for the Coast Guard. Introduced along with other "Branch" numbers in early 1943, most were deleted from the lists at the end of WWII with only a couple going into 1946. All but a few were in the US, as one would expect. Also one finds the largest percentage of Post Office Stations. There are no reported covers with the 11000 numbers in any addresses. Only cancels reported with 11000 numbers are similar to the double ring cancels illustrated below.
"Numbered Navy and Marine Corps Post Office Locations" - 7th Edition, Volume 3 by Russ Carter; Military Postal History Society 2003.

Each entry provides a link to the image of the front of the cover. There is also the option to have a link to the image of the back of the cover if there is anything of significance there. Finally, there is the primary date for the cover and the classification types for all postmarks based on the Locy System.
