USS SUNFISH earned the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ nine battle stars and the World War II Victory Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - A plectognath marine fish, having a deep body truncated behind, and high dorsal; and anal fins.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Joseph W. Fowler.
