Naval Covers

This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. There should be a separate set of pages for each name of the ship (for example, Bushnell AG-32 / Sumner AGS-5 are different names for the same ship so there should be one set of pages for Bushnell and one set for Sumner). Postmarks

This section lists examples of the postmarks used by the ship. There should be a separate set of postmarks for each name and/or commissioning period. Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

NAMESAKE - Daniel Seid USNR (November 29 1918 - February 1 1942)
Seid enlisted in the Naval Reserve at Long Beach on September 10 1940, as Seaman Second Class. On September 15 1940, Seaman Seid was assigned to preliminary flight training at the Naval Reserve Aviation Base, Long Beach. On November 19 1940, he was appointed Aviation Cadet, USNR, and reported for training at the Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida, on November 25 1940. Following additional training at the Naval Air Station, Miami, Florida, and appointment as Naval Aviator, he was commissioned Ensign, USNR, on July 25 1941. Seid was assigned to temporary duty, Fleet Air Detachment, at the San Diego Naval Air Station prior to reporting for duty with Scouting Squadron 6 aboard the USS ENTERPRISE CV-6 on November 9 1941. On February 1 1942, Ensign Seid participated in the initial attack on Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands. In the face of enemy fighter opposition and heavy antiaircraft fire, Ensign Seid determinedly pressed his attack on the enemy installations on Roi Island until he was killed in action. He was posthumously awarded the Air Medal
