Postmarks

Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

Other Information

USS SEA DEVIL earned the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 5 battle stars and the World War II Victory Medal during her Naval Service.

NAMESAKE - Manta birostria, the largest of all rays, noted for power and endurance.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Sherman K. Kennedy.

Two submarines of the US Navy have borne the name SEA DEVIL - USS Sea Devil AGSS-400 and USS Sea Devil SSN-664.

One cutter of the US Coast Guard bares the name SEA DEVIL - USCGC Sea Devil WPB-87368
