Naval Covers

This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. There should be a separate set of pages for each name of the ship (for example, Bushnell AG-32 / Sumner AGS-5 are different names for the same ship so there should be one set of pages for Bushnell and one set for Sumner). Other Information

USS POOLE earned the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the European-Africa-Middle East Campaign Medal, the WWII Victory Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Gunners Mate First Class Minor Butler Poole, USN (2 February 1920 - 12 October 1942)
         Poole enlisted in the Navy February 15 1938. Gunners Mate First Class Poole was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for extraordinary heroism and courageous devotion to duty while in charge of the Forward Magazine Flooding Control Station aboard USS Boise CL-47 during the Battle of Cape Esperance, Guadalcanal, on the night of October 11–12 1942. He gave up his life in an attempt to reach the flooding panel through overpowering gas fumes, 12 October 1942.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Minor Herndon Poole, mother of Minor Butler Poole.
