Naval Covers

This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. Ship had no postal facilities. The note was slipped inside the cover. Both the written and printed return addresses misspelled the ship's name.

 

Other Information

NAMESAKE - 1st Lt. William G. Sylvester, USA (b. - 7 December 1941)
1stLt. Sylvester was the first coast artillery officer killed in action in World War II. He was stationed at Hickam Field, Hawaii, on 7 December 1941.

NAMESAKE - An agent blocking, clogging or impeding.

NAMESAKE - Calluna vulgaris (known as common heather, ling, or simply heather) is the sole species in the genus Calluna in the flowering plant family Ericaceae.

Two cutters of the US Coast Guard have borne the name HEATHER - USLHS Heather (1903) and USCGC Heather WLB-331.
