Jethro Kenneth Delano was born in 1908 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, and enlisted in the navy in Feb. 1927.  Although known as a mail clerk, it appears his primary duty was as a navy electrician. He was with the cruiser PORTLAND when commissioned, and many covers in 1933-1934 show "J.K. Delano" on the back as mail clerk. It's not clear when he left the ship, or what his assignments were after that.  However, in February 1939 Delano left the navy and resided at Braintree, Massachusetts. In 1940 he was working as an electrician for the Navy Yard in Boston.  He later lived in Quincy, and in 1974 moved to St. Petersburg, Florida where he died in July 1984.  His obituary says he was a WWII veteran, but I didn't quickly see anything about it in records.
Note: Early USCS Bulletins refer to him sometimes as "Jeff" Delano.  I've also seen covers that he signed "J. Ken Delano."

Cachets should be listed in chronological order based on earliest known usage. Use the postmark date or best guess. This applies to add-on cachets as well.

Ken Delano." Research by Lloyd Ferrell, USCS L-12082
