Other Information

USS BUCKLEY earned the Combat Action Ribbon, the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, the American Campaign Medal, the European-Africa-Middle East Campaign Medal w/ 3 Battle stars and the WWII Victory Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Aviation Ordnanceman John Daniel Buckley, USN (28 July 1920 - 7 December 1941)
         Born in North Providence, RI, John Daniel Buckley enlisted in the Navy in 1940. He was killed in action during the Pearl Harbor attack on 7 December 1941. Aviation Ordnanceman Buckley was commended by the Commander-in-Chief, Pacific Fleet, for prompt and efficient action and utter disregard for personal danger in the effort to repel the Japanese attack on the Naval Air Station, Kaneohe Bay, Oahu, Hawaii.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. James Buckley, mother of Aviation Ordnanceman Buckley.
