USS BAMBERG COUNTY LST-209 earned the American Campaign Medal, the Europe-Africa-Middle East Campaign Medal w/ 1 Battle star, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the National Defense Service Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - A county in southwestern South Carolina. The county seat also bears the same name, Bamberg. Established on 25 February 1897, the county also bears the name of one of the prominent old families in the area, as well as a former province in Germany.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. C. A. Dalton.
