Other Information

USS MINNEAPOLIS earned the Combat Action Ribbon, the China Service Medal, the American Defense Service Medal w/Fleet Clasp, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (w/ 16 Battle stars), the World War II Victory Medal, the Navy World War II Occupation Medal w/ JAPAN Clasp, the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Medal (3 awards) during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Named for the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota

The ships sponsor was Miss Grace L. Newton.

Four ships of the US Navy have named for Minneapolis - USS Minneapolis C-13, USS Minneapolis CA-36, USS Minneapolis–Saint Paul SSN-708 and USS Minneapolis-Saint Paul LCS-21.
