Naval Covers
This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. There should be a separate set of pages for each incarnation of the ship (ie, for each entry in the "Ship Name and Designation History" section). Covers should be presented in chronological order (or as best as can be determined).
Since a ship may have many covers, they may be split among many pages so it doesn't take forever for the pages to load. Each page link should be accompanied by a date range for covers on that page.

Postmarks
This section lists examples of the postmarks used by the ship. There should be a separate set of postmarks for each incarnation of the ship (ie, for each entry in the "Ship Name and Designation History" section). Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.
A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an
image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN
THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

Other Information
USS DUNCAN earned the Navy E Ribbon (5 awards) and the National Defense Service Medal during her Naval career.
NAMESAKE Admiral Donald B. Duncan, USN (1 September 1896 – 8 September 1975).
Duncan played an important role in aircraft-carrier operations during World War II.
In 1941, he was the first commander of the USS LONG ISLAND CVE-1 the Navy's first escort aircraft carrier. As the air operations officer to Admiral Ernest J. King, Duncan assisted with the planning for the Doolittle Raid, and was the one who proposed the use of both the B-25 Mitchell bombers and the USS HORNET CV-8 for the raid. He was then appointed to be the first commanding officer of the carrier USS ESSEX CV-9.
Duncan held several important staff and operational positions following the war. He served as Deputy Chief of Naval Operations (Air) from March 6 1947 to January 20 1948. He commanded the 2nd Task Fleet after 1948, and was the Vice Chief of Naval Operations from 1951 to 1956.
The ships sponsor was Mrs. Donald B. Duncan, widow of the late Adm. Duncan.
