Naval Covers

If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

Other Information

USS TROUT earned the Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, the American Defense Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 11 Battle stars and the Philippine Defense Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Any of certain small, fresh-water fishes, highly esteemed by anglers for their gameness, their rich and finely flavored flesh and their handsome (usually mottled or speckled) coloration.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Walter B. Woodson, wife of Rear Admiral Woodson, judge advocate general of the US Navy.

Two ships of the US Navy have borne the name TROUT - USS Trout SS-202 and USS Trout SS-566.
