Other Information

USS SANTEE earned the Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, the China Service Medal, the American Defense Service Medal (w/ "Fleet" clasp), the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal (w/ 2 Battle stars), the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (w/ 7 Battle stars), the World War II Victory Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal (w/ "Asia" clasp), the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Named for the Santee River in South Carolina.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Charles Kurz. Mr. Kurz was founder of Keystone Shipping Co. and headed the War Shipping Administration (WSA) during WW2.
