USS SABINE earned the Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, the Navy Expeditionary Service Medal, the China Service Medal, the American Defense Service Medal (w/ Fleet clasp), the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (w/ 10 Battle stars), the World War II Victory Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal (w/ Asia clasp), the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (2 awards) and the Philippine Liberation Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - A river in Texas forming, in part, the Texas-Louisiana border.

The ships sponsor was Miss Ellen Klitgaard.

Two ships of the US Navy have borne the name SABINE - USS Sabine (1855 Sailing Frigate) and USS Sabine AO-25.
