USS WABASH earned the China Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (w/ 2 Battle stars), the World War II Victory Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal (w/ Asia clasp), the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal (w/ 2 Campaign stars), the United Nations Service Medal and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - The Wabash River in Ohio.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Louis A. Puckett.

Four ships of the US Navy have borne the name WABASH - USS Wabash (1855 Screw Frigate), USS Wabash ID-1824, USS Wabash AOG-4 and USS Wabash AOR-5
