Naval Covers

This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. There should be a separate set of pages for each name of the ship (for example, Bushnell AG-32 / Sumner AGS-5 are different names for the same ship so there should be one set of pages for Bushnell and one set for Sumner). Covers should be presented in chronological order (or as best as can be determined).

NAMESAKE - Master Chief Hospital Corpsman William Richard Charette, USN (29 March 1932 – 18 March 2012)
        Charette enlisted in the U.S. Navy on 11 January 1951 and received the nation's highest military decoration for valor, the Medal of Honor. He was awarded the medal for heroic actions "above and beyond the call of duty" on 27 March 1953, as an Hospital Corpsman Third Class while assigned to a Marine Corps rifle company (Company F, Third Platoon, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division) during the Korean War.
        HM3 Charette was presented the Medal of Honor from President Dwight D. Eisenhower during a ceremony at the White House in Washington D.C. on January 12, 1954. Charette was one of five enlisted sailors to earn the Medal of Honor during the Korean war; all were Corpsman but Charette was the only living recipient of the medal. He retired from the Navy on 1 April 1977 after 26 years of service.
        Charette earned the following medals and devices during his Naval career - Submarine Warfare Insignia Device, the Medal of Honor, the Purple Heart Medal, the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, the Navy Good Conduct Medal w/ one ​3⁄16" silver star and one ​3⁄16" bronze star, the National Defense Service Medal w/ one ​3⁄16" bronze star, the Korean Service Medal w/ FMF Combat Operation Insignia and one ​3⁄16" bronze star, the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, the United Nations Service Medal and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
