The Type 11 cancel has four very short, fat killer bars. Also, the date is in a straight line across the center of the dial, rather than one part above the other.

The following cancel is classified as Type 11-2an+ (USS,FPO AP 96634-2770)

The "-2" variation indicates that "FPO" and a ZIP Code appear in the dial in addition to the ship's name. The "a" variation indicates that the bars are missing. The "n+" variation indicates that the ship's designation and hull number are given and are separated by a dash. The "USS" variation indicates that there are no periods after the letters in "USS". "FPO AP 96634-2770" is the FPO (Fleet Post Office) address of the ship at the time of the cancel. The break in the dial ring appears to be caused by the date portion of the postmark being shifted to the right.

The following cancel is classified as Type 11-1(n+) (USN,USS)

The "-1" variation indicates that "U.S. Navy" appears in the dial in addition to the ship's name. The "(n+)" variation indicates that the ship's designation and hull number are given in parenthesis and are separated by a dash. The "USN" variation indicates that there are no periods after the letters "US" in "US Navy". The "USS" variation indicates that there are no periods after the letters in "USS".
