Other Information

USS SARATOGA earned the American Defense Service Medal with "Fleet" clasp, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 8 Battle stars and the World War II Victory Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - The Battles of Saratoga (September 19 and October 7, 1777).

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Curtis D. Wilbur, wife of the Secretary of the Navy.

Seven ships of the US Navy have borne the name SARATOGA - USS Saratoga (1780, 18-gun Sloop-of-War), USS Saratoga (1814, 26-gun Corvette), USS Saratoga (1842, 22-gun Sloop-of-War), USS Saratoga ACR-2,
USS Saratoga CC-3 (Never-completed), USS Saratoga (CV-3) and USS Saratoga CV-60.
