USS SAGINAW BAY earned the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 5 Battle stars, the World War II Victory Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal w/ "Asia" clasp, the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Medal w/ 1 star during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Named Saginaw Bay for a bay on the north coast of Kuiu Island, Alexander Archipelago, Alaska.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Howard L. Vickery, wife of Rear Admiral Howard L. Vickery, vice chairman of the U.S. Maritime Commission.
