Friden Meter Examples

A postage meter is a device that produces an imprint that is a substitute for both the postmark and postage stamp.

The FR code identifies the meter manufacturer: Friden The letter O before a meter classification indicates that meter text includes "U.S. OFFICIAL MAIL."

 

Code FR1

The USCS Postmark Catalog lists only one ship, USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63), as having used the Meter FR1 postmark.

Code FR2

 

The following postmark is classified as Meter FR2 (#8014019) ZIP 96697

 

The following postmark is classified in the USCS Catalog as Meter FR2 (#9003472) ZIP 96629 1994

You will notice several differences between this FR2 and the previous FR2 example. For example, flames curling down the right side of the postage amount box, slightly different placement of the meter indicator in relation to the postage amount box, more stars in the lower right, wider torch, etc.
