The Special Collections page contains the list of special collections.

Basic Page Structure

The entry for a special collection page is contained on a single line starting with "<li>...". There should only be one type of entry:

  1. Entries with an active link
The special collection's name is a link that takes you to the page for that special collection. The page for that special collection should be created immediately after the entry is added to the index page. Entries with an active link use the following template:
    <li> SPECIAL COLLECTION NAME </li>
    DESCRIPTION

Where:

" SPECIAL COLLECTION NAME" is a link to the page that contains the information for the special collection. "PAGE_NAME" is the name of the page for the given special collection and should have the form: "Special_Collection_<Special Collection Name>". For example, the page name for the special collection of Meter Cancels is "Special_Collection_Meter_Cancels".

"SPECIAL COLLECTION NAME" is the name of the special collection and will be used as the link's label (ie, how the link will appear when displayed on the page). For example, Meter Cancels is a link to a page named Special_Collection_Meter_Cancels but in the special collection index page the link looks like "Meter Cancels".

"DESCRIPTION" is a short description of the special collection and its goal.

How to add a new "active link" entry

If you want to add a new special collection, then you need to use the "active link" template (see above) to create an entry with an active link. Copy the template and paste it in the correct location. Then replace "PAGE_NAME", "SPECIAL COLLECTION NAME", and "DESCRIPTION" with appropriate values. For example:

<li> Meter Cancels</li>
The goal of this view is to display all the Meter postmarks in one place in order to get a better understanding of exactly how many different styles exist.

You will need to create the page for the new special collection entry. Since its layout will depend on the intended goal of the special collection, there is no general template for creating this page. Contact the Curator for help.

Finally...

Don't forget to preview the page before saving it and please add a short description of the change in the Summary text box just above the Save / Show buttons at the bottom of the page. A short description would be something like "added entry for Meter Cancels".

To see some examples, just look at how the current entries are coded. If you have questions or run into trouble, contact the Curator for help. You can always Cancel an editing session using the "Cancel" link just to the right of the "Show changes" button at the bottom of the editor screen. For general editing help, see the article on How To Edit Pages.
