A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an
image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN
THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

'''NAMESAKE''' - Major General Thomas H. Barry (? - December 30 1919)<br/>
Barry graduated from West Point in 1877. He participated in the Indian Wars in the Dakotas and Montana as a Second Lieutenant in the Seventh Cavalry. He advanced through the ranks at a brisk pace for the time period. In 1893 he was appointed Assistant Adjutant General of the Army by Secretary Lamont. He During the Spanish American War he served in the Philippines. Brigadier-General Thomas H Barry of the United States Army was a participant in the Cuban Pacification in the year of 1908. The Army of Cuban Pacification Medal No. 1 was presented to Major General Thomas H. Barry on June 1 1909. In 1910 he was appointed the Superintendent of West Point. Major General Thomas H. Barry was the commanding general of the 86th Infantry Division of the United States Army in World War I. He retired from the Army on October 13 1918. On December 30 1919 Major General Thomas H. Barry died at Walter Reed General Army Hospital having been ill for three weeks suffering form Bright’s disease. He was interned in New York with full military honors.
