'''NAMESAKE''' - Gunnery Sergeant Fred William Stockham, USMC (March 16 1881 - June 22 1918)<br/>GySgt Stockham enlisted in the USMC on three different occassions and served in various countries; 1903-1907 (Philippines and China), 1912-1916 (Nicaragua), 1916-1918 (France).
GySgt Stockham was posthumously awarded the '''Medal of Honor''' for his self-sacrificial valor during the Battle of Belleau Wood in World War I and the Croix de Guerre by the French government. GySgt Stockham was assigned to the 96th Company, 2d Battalion, 6th Regiment.<br/>
USS Stockham DD-683 and USNS GySgt Fred W. Stockham T-AK-3017 were named for GySgt. Fred W. Stockham, USMC.
