This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the
ship. There should be a separate set of pages for each incarnation of the ship (ie,

has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an
image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN
THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

<h3>Other Information</h3>
'''NAMESAKE''' - Private First Class Oscar Palmer Austin, USMC (January 15 1948 - February 23 1969).<br/>Austin was inducted into the U.S. Marine Corps at Phoenix April 22 1968, he completed recruit training with the 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California, in July 1968. He completed his individual combat training with Company T, 3rd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Training Regiment, Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, California, in August 1968; and basic infantry training with Weapons Company, Basic Infantry Training Battalion, 2nd Infantry Training Regiment at Camp Pendleton, in September.<br/>
Promoted to Private First Class on October 1 1968, he was transferred later that month to the Republic of Vietnam where he served as ammunitions man with Company E, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division. While participating in combat 6.5 miles west of Da Nang on February 23 1969, he was killed in action. PFC Austin was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroism and sacrifice of his own life.<br/>
PFC Austin's medals and decorations include: the Medal of Honor, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
