'''NAMESAKE''' - Lieutenant Joseph Orleck, USN (January 22 1906 – September 9 1943)<br/>
Lt. Orleck was the commanding officer of [[NAUSET AT 89|USS NAUSET AT-89]], killed in action when his ship was sunk by German aircraft in the Gulf of Salerno on September 9 1943. A recipient of the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for rescue work during the Casablanca invasion, he was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for his courageous firefighting and flood control efforts to prevent total loss of his ship during the Salerno assault.
