This section lists examples of the postmarks used by the ship. There should be a

has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest
known usage.

'''NAMESAKE''' - James Duval Koiner (February 16 1919 - November 13 1942)<br/>
Koiner entered the Naval Reserve as Ensign on December 31 1940. He reported for active duty on March 17 1941, under instruction at the Supply Corps, Naval Medical Center, Washington, D.C. Koiner reported to the 3d Naval District on October 17 1941 for duty on board [[ATLANTA CL 51|USS ATLANTA CL-51]] upon her commissioning. After serving in the light cruiser during the Midway and Solomon Islands campaigns, Koiner was promoted to Lieutenant (j.g.) on October 1 1942. He was killed in action on November 13 1942, on board ATLANTA, during the Battle of Guadalcanal.
