<h3>Postmarks</h3>
This section lists examples of the postmarks used by the ship. There should be a
separate set of postmarks for each incarnation of the ship (ie, for each entry
in the "Ship Name and Designation History" section). Within each set, the postmarks
should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark
has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest
known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an
image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN
THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

HALLIGAN received six battle stars for her World War II service<br/><br/>
'''NAMESAKE''' - Rear Admiral John Halligan, USN (May 4 1876 – December 11 1934).<br/>
Halligan, born May 4 1876 in South Boston, Mass., graduated from the United States Naval Academy at the head of his class in 1898. He served during the Spanish-American War in [[BROOKLYN CA 3| USS BROOKLYN ACR-3]], flagship of Commodore Winfield S. Schley. During World War I he was chief of staff to Commander, U.S. Naval Forces, France, and for his outstanding performance of duty he received the Distinguished Service Medal.<br/>
After the Armistice, he commanded [[OHIO BB 12|USS OHIO BB-12]], and in 1925 became chief of the Bureau of Engineering. Subsequently, he commanded [[SARATOGA CV 3|USS SARATOGA CV-3]], served as Assistant Chief of Naval Operations in 1930, and in 1933 became Commander Aircraft, Base Force. Appointed Rear Admiral in 1930, Halligan died at Puget Sound, Wash., December 11 1934, while serving as Commandant, 13th Naval District.
