<h3>Naval Covers</h3>
This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the
ship. There should be a separate set of pages for each incarnation of the ship (ie,
for each entry in the "Ship Name and Designation History" section). Covers should
be presented in chronological order (or as best as can be determined).

Since a ship may have many covers, they may be split among many pages so it doesn't
take forever for the pages to load. Each page link should be accompanied by a date
range for covers on that page.

<h3>Postmarks</h3>
This section lists examples of the postmarks used by the ship. There should be a
separate set of postmarks for each incarnation of the ship (ie, for each entry
in the "Ship Name and Designation History" section). Within each set, the postmarks
should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark
has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest
known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an
image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN
THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

<h3>Other Information</h3>
USCGC BASSWOOD has a long and distinguished history of serving the United States as a defense force and the world as a humanitarian force. As an active unit during World War II, Basswood received the American Campaign Medal as well as the World War II Victory Medal. The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and three Vietnam Service Medals were awarded for services from 1967 to 1972. Basswood has also received two Coast Guard Unit Commendations. The first was awarded in January 1976 for "Exceptionally Meritorious Performance of Duty" and for "Humanitarian Efforts in Improving Relations with the People of the Trust Territory ." The second was awarded in 1987 for "Exceptional Meritorious Service... while engaged in successfully concluding major emergencies including search and rescue, ship groundings, pollution prevention and typhoon relief." Four Meritorious Unit Commendations have been awarded: the first for performance following Super Typhoon Pamela in May 1976, the second for operations in 1977, the third for involvement with the salvage of the tanker SS American Legion in 1986, and the fourth in 1990 for upgrading the condition of the unit and aids to navigation in the area of operation. Basswood has also been presented with two Humanitarian Service Medals for providing typhoon relief to the Islands of Micronesia. Most recently, Basswood won the 1997 Coast Guard Foundation Admiral John B. Hayes Award for outstanding performance of duty throughout 1997.<br/><br/>
