Naval Covers

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

USS MAKASSAR STRAIT received two battle stars for her World War II service.

USS MAKASSAR STRAIT made four trips on "Magic Carpet" duty.

NAMESAKE - Makassar Strait is a strait between the islands of Borneo and Sulawesi in Indonesia. To the north it joins the Celebes Sea, while to the south it meets the Java Sea. The Mahakam River of Borneo empties into the strait.
