USS GRUNION received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal w/ one battle star for her World War II service.

NAMESAKE - A small fish of the silversides family, indigenous to the western American coast.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Stanford C. Hooper, wife of Rear Admiral Hooper.
